How To Install Kali Linux In Virtual Box

Kali Linux is an open-source OS(Operating System) and is a Debian-derived Linux distribution designed for digital forensics and penetration testing. It,s maintained and funded by Offensive security.

Kali Linux is used for the penetration-testing program (tool), including OWASP ZAPweb application security scanners, Burp suite, Aircrack-ng (a software suite for penetration-testing wireless LANs), Armitage (a graphical cyber attack management tool), Nmap (a port scanner), Wireshark (a packet analyzer), Metasploit (penetration testing framework), john the Ripper (a password cracker), sqlmap (automatic SQL injection and database takeover tool), Aircrack-ng (a software suite for penetration-testing wireless LANs), etc.

Kali Linux gained popularity when it was featured in the TV series Mr. Robot. In Mr. Robot some tools are shown in Mr. Robot such as Bluesniff, Bluetooth Scanner (btsscanner), John the ripper, Metasploit Framework, Nmap, Shellshock, and Wget.

How To Install Kali Linux In Virtual Box

In this tutorial we gonna learn how to install kali Linux on the virtual box, Virtual Box is software for using an Operating System without removing your current Operating system, Using Virtual Box is like an emulator.

Using Kali Linux on Virtual Box is the best way to learn and also is safe, whatever you do in your Kali Linux,s doesn’t impact on your “host system”.

Now, let’s see how to install Kali Linux on Virtual box, First, you need to download and install Virtual Box and download Kali Linux Virtual Box.

Step 1. Launch Virtual Box and click on “New” after that a new window will appear where you can give them a “name” like Kali Linux, next “Machine Folder location” leave them default, In “Type” select Linux and “Version” Select “Debian (64-bit)” if you download kali Linux 64-bit either you can select 32-bit if you downloaded 32-bit and click on “Next”.

Step 2. The next part is selecting Memory Kali Linux needs 2GB of RAM to run but we recommend that you select 4GB of Ram for a better experience and run smoother if you have and click on Next.

Step 3. On the next page select “Create a virtual hard disk now” and click on create.

Step 4. Now it’s creating a virtual hard disk on your system so now select Hard Disk File Type VDI (VirtualBox Disk Image) and click on Next.

Step 5. On Storage on physical hard disk select Dynamically allocated and click on Next.

Step 6. After that, you need at least 20GB of free space on your hard disk and click on Create.

So, now you can see on your left-hand side virtual machine is created and you have to do some small modifications to run Kali Linux first thing you need to do is select Kali Linux virtual machine and click on the “Settings” button and change these settings.

In the system section, under processor, you can give him more cores to run smoother.

In the Display section, you can maximize the video memory for a smoother look.

In the storage section, it’s the most important component is to click on “Empty” under Controller: IDE, select the disk on the right-hand side, and click on “Choose a file” now select the Kali Linux image file and click on open. Now we are done and if you want to check some settings and explore more things you can do after that click on “OK”.

Now it’s time to run Kali Linux, select Kali Linux virtual machine, and Click on “Start”. And Now Kali Linux installation will run.

There are many ways to install Kali Linux but we gonna choose the easiest way for installation and we go with most of the default settings if want customizes Kali Linux you can do these experiments because Kali Linux runs on a Virtual Machine so it doesn’t harm your PC/Laptop.

Step 1. Let’s go with Graphical installation and choose those basic things as per your Region like country, language, timezone, and keyboard layout.

Step 2. Type your “Hostname” leave the “Domain name” blank and continue.

Step 3. Adding a user config and a user name as well and Setting the password as well because it’s necessary.

Step 4. Select timezone and select “Guided – use entire disk” and continue.

Step 5. And leave the first option selected and continue, and select “All files in one partition” as recommended.

Step 6. And now we are ready to write changes to the disk click continue and select “Yes”.

So it’s gonna installing the operating system it’s gonna takes some time and in the middle of the installation, it will for packages installation you can choose them what you want or not, either you can go with the default option and install all.

Install the GRUB loader click on “Yes” and continue and select the Virtual Drive and click on continue after installation is complete Virtual Machine system will restart.

In the final Step enter your User name and Password.
